Your account

Your account settings can be changed at the user area, in Your account. Here you can make changes to your profile, password or account language, as well as generate personal access tokens and access release notes.

Profile #

If you want to change the email address associated to your account or remove your account entirely, this can be done in the Profile section.

Password #

If you want to change your password to a new one, this can be done in the Password section. Penpot sends you an email each time your password is changed, set or reset.

Sessions and sign-in protection #

Your session ends after a period without activity, and also after a maximum time since you logged in, even if you keep working. When that happens, Penpot asks you to log in again.

After several failed login attempts in a short time, your account can be locked for some minutes. Penpot shows how long to wait. Resetting your password unlocks it.

On self-hosted installations, the administrator sets these limits. See Session expiration and Account lockout in the Technical Guide.

If you lose access to your account #

If you can no longer sign in to your Penpot cloud account, for example because your Google account was suspended or you lost access to your email, write to [email protected]. Once we confirm that the account is yours, we can give you access to its files from an account you can use.

Include in your message:

• The email of the account you can no longer access.
• The email you can use now, if you already have another Penpot account.
• Anything that helps us confirm the account is yours: names of projects, files or boards, file links, or screenshots of your designs.

To avoid losing work, export your important files from time to time and keep the .penpot files somewhere safe.

On self-hosted installations, contact the administrator of your instance.

Notifications #

At the Notifications section you can configure the email and dashboard notifications.

Settings #

At the Settings section you can change the language and the UI color theme.

UI Theme

Penpot's default interface is dark but you can switch anytime to a light option. You have 2 ways to change the theme:

• From "Your account" > "Settings".
• Using the shortcut Alt/⌥ + M.

Access tokens #

At the Integrations section, under Personal access tokens, you can manage your access tokens. Read more about access tokens here.
